Loner dares to set his eyes
out there somewhere
vast,
lifting his head
only occasionally,
always making excuses –
one day he would venture,
one day soon.
but maybe he’d kick back
for now and think a bit more,
reasoning that
everything looked much the same
as it did yesterday,
so maybe everything
past that ledge in the distance
was probably much the same
as it was yesterday,
it certainly looked that way
from where he stood and thought –
about the long, dusty, straight, flat road
outside of the field
which led all the way to that ledge –
it was huge,
‘what could be down there?
Maybe I’ll kick back for now
and ponder my new horizons –
then I will be ready,
tomorrow…
maybe.’
Great piece as always.
Great how they question what lies beyond but put it off, because if they dont know about it, it can never change.
More awesome the more I think about it. Applicable to so many life situations, ideologies etc
A subtly mesmerising poem.

Phenomenal! So few words used to say, describe so much more than the eyes and wandering soul can see.

What a great representation of those apprehensive of gaining knowledge outside of their scope.

I saw the pic this morning and started writing, it went from cute to the discussion we’d had about those flat earth believers, and they get to me lol. But yeah, you called them spot on. Thank you for reading.

For me, I have a different take. The dreamer is planted and cannot go. Yet, to acknowledge that the dream is unattainable is worse than pretending it can be achieved tomorrow.
