Longing #Haiku

Over excited
my dreams roam too far from me
trampling lush heather

Often in springtime
scents of favourite flowers
push back to winter

Walking though the world
hand in hand with nature’s woes
a cool breeze still blows

Privileged to touch
rough, wrinkled bodies of logs
reminds me of life

I’m apparently celebrating  three years of WordPress, which also means, I am reminded of the reason for my blog and the bare, three years without my dad.  But, please, when you find yourself there, do not despair;  remember that life happens.  It is what it is.  Enjoy your life, regardless.  I know he would be thrilled that I have embraced more than he ever saw as an inclination within me.  I got married.  I continued to write, became published, even became the activist in word and deed.  He always saw that, but I did not.

I don’t have it in me at present to write.  I could reblog, but for me, that doesn’t always  matter.   What does matter is that the souls of the young are not tarnished, not disillusioned by life in whatever form it manifests.   I can just ask from experience that you – love it, live it, create, and be your best to help this world and those that inhabit it.  We are ALL sentient beings with feelings.  To that end, we must campaign, build a better life for us and those without a voice.  We need to campaign,  petition and nag our political parties to eradicate endless suffering of us and our animal counterparts.   We should not be allowed to rule with impunity… simply because we can!  Climate change is real as is death and taxes.  Learn from it.  Use it.  If only to leave behind common decency.

It Will End with Us

A ton of wealth,
Kingdoms come and go.
Hatred and vicious swipes
rule today’s world,
obliterating the love,
tearing at faith –
the faith we have in ourselves.
Oceans rich in abundance,
overwhelming us,
are overwhelmed
with our filth
and disgust –
as much as we are disgusted
with humanity.
Just stop pillaging
and polluting
and take
the chance
we could leave
this planet whole

 REGARDLESS

of the current dictators
that rule its waves.

My small tribute to Dame Daphne Marjorie Sheldrick, DBE a Kenyan- British author, conservationist and expert in animal husbandry. She saved and nurtured many fragile species. She was a recognised authority on the rearing and reintegrating of wild creatures and was the first person to perfect the milk formula and necessary husbandry for both infant milk-dependent elephants and rhinos and a host of other species for over 30 years, finally losing her battle with Breast cancer.  Both battles are close to my heart.

Flames die in the cold
For warm hearts to light the way
We are all orphans

Listen.
Watch us, silent grass.
See without avarice,
We know you, yet bid you no harm,

Carved Hearts

Ivory Madonna
abandoned in the dust,
carved from infants’
blood laced tears –
their hacked off faces
seduce the lust.
See the whole world weeping,
carrying the pain,
heading for disaster’s
burden of beast’s and famine
when winter comes again.
Wasted, starving children’s
ghosted sockets cry,
begging us, their saviour,
for manna on the plain.

Wolves Saved my Life

At Lockwood Animal Rescue Center (LARC), veterans suffering from PTSD are connecting to nature in a way few would expect–bonding with the big, bad wolf.

dodo_larc1

LARC provides therapy in the form of wolves, wolf-dogs, coyotes, foxes, and Primurine horses. These therapy animals are rescues from terrible living conditions or a threatening environment. The facility spays, neuters, and microchips all of the rescued animals in a fight against the breeding of wildlife in a domestic setting.

With these rescues, packs are formed naturally when individual animals show they are ready to bond with other animals. The bigger the pack, the larger the enclosure they require. LARC is highly sensitive to a pack’s need for space and provides spacious habitats.

LARC employs returning combat veterans to care for traumatized wolves through a program called Warriors and Wolves. The wolves in…
